‎The Rotary Club of Eko Signature has hit its ₦11 million fundraising target for community projects, with plans to improve maternal healthcare, drainage and sanitation, and provide livelihood support to residents in Lagos.

‎The club’s Charter President, Rotarian Davina Ogbue, disclosed this at her installation and the club’s Community Eco-Health Gala Night in Lagos, where 20 charter members were inducted.
‎
‎She said donations came in despite a change in the event date that affected attendance, with some individuals contributing anonymously and other organisations expressing interest in partnerships.
‎
‎Ogbue said the club was leveraging professional networks and corporate partnerships to fund its projects, adding that it had already completed most of the rehabilitation of sewage and toilet facilities at Victoria Island Senior Secondary School.

‎The project, sponsored by Dharmattan Nigeria Limited, involved repairs to the school’s sewage system and toilet facilities. The club also plans to sensitise students on proper hygiene and maintain the facilities to ensure sustainability.
‎
‎The club’s Projects Director, Rotarian Adebayo Abass, said its next interventions would focus on maternal healthcare, drainage and sanitation, and livelihood support, with a combined estimated cost of ₦9 million.

‎Under its Safe Motherhood, Bright Futures initiative, the club plans to spend ₦2.5 million on prenatal and postnatal equipment, including blood pressure machines and glucose monitors, as well as durable chairs for Igboefon Primary Health Centre. Abass said the intervention would also include educating pregnant women on the importance of regular blood pressure and glucose checks.

‎The club has earmarked ₦4 million for its Flow Clean Drainage Drive in Iwaya, which will involve clearing and desilting blocked drains, providing waste containers and mosquito nets, and collaborating with the local government and the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) on regular waste evacuation.

‎Abass said the club would also spend about ₦2.5 million on its Stitch Smart Livelihood Drive, providing seven beneficiaries with sewing machines and three months of training to equip them with skills for income generation. He said the club would monitor beneficiaries’ progress and support their efforts to establish themselves.

‎Ogbue said the club, officially chartered on July 28, 2026, with 20 members, hoped to recruit three to five additional members by the end of the Rotary year, prioritising people willing to contribute their time, skills and resources.
‎
‎She said the club was also exploring partnerships with foundations to support children from underserved communities, particularly girls, with access to basic education.
‎
‎Emphasising sustainability, the President said the club would not abandon completed projects but would monitor and maintain them. She added that it planned to interact club at the school to encourage continued engagement and maintenance of the facilities.

‎The installation ceremony was attended by the District Governor of Rotary International District 9112, Rotarian Layi Abidoye; and the Charter President of the club’s sponsor, Rotary Club of Falomo, Past Assistant Governor Uzo Ogoazi, alongside other Rotarians and special guests.
‎
‎Also present were Felix Molokwu, Chairman of Dharmattan Gas & Power Products Limited, and his wife, a Past President of Rotary Club of VGC; Bashir Koledoye, Managing Director of Dharmattan Nigeria Limited, and his wife; and former Ekiti State Commissioner for Communication, Sports, Culture and Social Development, Sir Kayode Otitoju. The Molokwus’ contribution funded the club’s maternal and child health and social and economic empowerment projects.

‎Past District Governor of Rotary International District 9112, Rotarian Kola Sodipo, said the formation of more Rotary clubs would enable the organisation to reach more people in need, particularly as government could not address community needs alone.
