The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has announced plans to hold a Special National Prayer for Nigeria on September 30, followed by its General Assembly on October 1 in Abuja.

The prayer, according to the council, is aimed at seeking divine guidance, protection and blessings for Nigeria, as well as praying for peace, stability and progress in the country.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Abuja National Mosque Complex from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The council is led by its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.

The prayer will be followed by the NSCIA General Assembly on Thursday, October 1, at the same venue, beginning at 10 a.m.

The General Assembly is the highest decision-making organ of the council and brings together representatives of Islamic organisations, state councils and prominent Muslim figures from across the country.

According to the NSCIA, the assembly will include the Deputy President-General (North) and Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi; Deputy President-General (South), Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo; Secretary-General, Prof Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede; and Deputy Secretary-General, Prof Salisu Shehu.

Muslim public office holders, including governors, federal lawmakers, ministers, heads of government agencies and chief executive officers, are also expected to participate.

Representatives of the 36 State Councils for Islamic Affairs and the Federal Capital Territory will also attend the assembly.

Other participants are expected to include members of the council’s General Purpose Committee and Expanded General Purpose Committee, representatives of Islamic organisations and other prominent Muslim personalities.

The council said the assembly would provide an opportunity for consultation and reflection on issues affecting the Muslim community, the NSCIA and the wider Nigerian society.

It also urged invited members, representatives and stakeholders to make arrangements to attend and contribute to the success of the two-day programme.

The council called on Muslims across the country to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity, security, good governance and sustainable development.

The NSCIA said the programme was part of its broader commitment to promoting unity among Muslims, peaceful coexistence and efforts towards the stability and progress of Nigeria.
