• Defected members chide party over ‘belated’ expulsion
• Agege APC stakeholders dismiss defection of the duo, pledge electoral strength

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi and Azeez Yusuf over alleged anti-party activities, disloyalty, and conduct deemed inimical to the party’s discipline and integrity.

The state Chairman of the party, Cornelius Ojelabi, announced the expulsion in a statement yesterday.

Egunjobi and Yusuf were APC members who contested the party’s primaries in the 2026 Lagos State House of Assembly nomination process, but failed to secure the party’s tickets.

According to the APC, rather than accept the outcome of the party’s internal process and remain on its platform, the two subsequently obtained tickets from another political party.

The party described the action as a repudiation of party membership obligations and an act of anti-party activity and disloyalty.

It also dismissed their purported resignations from the APC as a “belated and face-saving attempt” to pre-empt disciplinary consequences.

However, Egunjobi and Yusuf have rejected their expulsion by the Lagos State chapter of the APC, describing the action as belated and politically unnecessary.

The duo, in a joint statement, said they had resigned from the APC in July 2026, weeks before the party announced their purported expulsion on September 23.

Meanwhile, stakeholders of the APC in Agege have said that the defection of two House of Assembly aspirants from the party to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) will not negatively impact its electoral strength.

A former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Oluyinka Ogundimu, who spoke on behalf of the stakeholders, made the position known while speaking with newsmen yesterday on the defection of Egunjobi and Yusuf.

The stakeholders confirmed that both men had not only defected to the APM but had also secured the party’s tickets to contest the Agege State Constituency I and II seats, respectively, in the forthcoming general elections.

They also reaffirmed support for the party’s House of Assembly candidates in Agege, Oluwagbenga Micheal Abiola for Constituency I and Shakiru Enimakure for Constituency II.

According to them, the defection of Egunjobi and Yusuf did not come as a surprise, as reports of their intention to leave the party had circulated within the locality.
