‎NYSC swears-in 2,101 corps members in Enugu

The National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) has sworn-in 2,101 corps members of the 2026 Batch C Stream  deployed to Enugu State for the one-year mandatory national service.

‎The State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Oluwakemi Awolola, disclosed this on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

‎Awolola said that the corps members comprised 983 males and 1,118 females.

‎She applauded Enugu State Government for its support and assistance to the NYSC scheme in the state.

‎The State Coordinator said that NYSC remained grateful to Gov. Peter Mbah administration unwavering commitment to the welfare, security and general well-being of corps members in the state.

She said, ‎”The various interventions of the state government have continued to create a more conducive environment for the successful implementation of the NYSC programmes in Enugu State.

‎”Of particular significance is the ongoing comprehensive intervention and overhaul of facilities at the NYSC permanent Orientation Camp, Awgu as well as improved welfare support and allowance provided for serving corps members in the state”.

‎She said that discipline remained the bedrock of the NYSC scheme, adding that they should adhere to the rules and regulations guiding the service.

‎”You should adhere to camp rules and regulations. Have respect for constituted authority, while observing NYSC bye-laws are mandatory act,” she advised.

‎She said that the orientation programe had been carefully structured to instill the values of patriotism, discipline, self-reliance, leadership and national integration through physical training exercise, drills. lectures, social activities and various interaction sessions.

‎The coordinator said that the corps members would be equipped with knowledge, skills and mindset that would help them to make meaningful contribution to the national development.

‎Delivering his address at the occasion, Gov Mbah reiterated his administration’s commitment to the welfare and security of the corps members.

‎He promised to commence the payment of a new allowance to all the corps members in October.

Mbah, however, did not disclose the amount the new allowance would be for each corps member.

‎The governor urged the corps members to have good relationship with the people of their host communities, advising them to familiarise themselves with the culture and language of their localities.
‎
‎He advised the corps members to see themselves as participants in a national projet and not completing compulsory national assignment.

Earlier, ‎Enugu State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Lloyd Enweremadu urged the corps members not to discriminate against anyone, advising them to respect the culture and traditions of their host communities.

The commissioner urged the corps members to take the orientation programme seriously.

‎He called on the corps members to see the service year as an opportunity rather than mere obligation, adding that the experience they would encounter would broaden their understanding about the nation.

‎The Enugu State Chief Judge, Justice Raymond Ozoemena, represented by Justice Anthony Onovo, administered oath of allegiance to the new corps members.

‎He urged the corps members to take great advantage of their stay in the state and use it to prosper themselves.
