THE Nigerian Law Society (NLS) and the Ghana Law Society (GLS), have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the Pan-African Institute for Continuing Legal Education (PAICLE).
Executive Director of the NLS, Dr Tonye-Clinton Jaja, said the agreement between the two professional bodies was formally executed on Monday, October 5 2025.
In a press statement, Jaja explained that the strategic initiative aims to enhance the professional capacity of legal practitioners across the African continent by providing standardised educational resources and training.
Jaja disclosed that the formal signing ceremony saw the President of the Ghana Law Society, Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor, sign the document on behalf of the Ghanaian association.
Dafeamekpor also serves as the Member of Parliament for South Dayi and the Majority Chief Whip in the Ghanaian Parliament.
While outlining the core objectives of the newly formed bilateral partnership, Jaja stated that both legal societies have committed to working together to formulate, design, and seamlessly deliver comprehensive continuing legal education programmes.
He noted that these capacity building initiatives will be deployed through both virtual and physical platforms to accommodate legal professionals across varying jurisdictions and bridge existing knowledge gaps.
“We both agreed to establish Pan-African Institute for Continuing Legal Education (PAICLE) with headquarters in Accra, Ghana,” Jaja said.
To solidify the growi relationship and foster regional integration between the two legal bodies, Jaja said that the Ghanaian association has pledged to participate actively in upcoming Nigerian legal events.
He revealed that the Ghana Law Society has promised to send a distinguished seven-man delegation to attend the forthcoming Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Law Society, scheduled to hold in November
