Lagos is gearing up for a historic week of world-class golf as the 65th FirstBank Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship prepares to take over the lush fairways of the Ikoyi Club 1938 in November.
As the nation’s longest-running golf tournament, organisers promise this year’s edition will be an unforgettable showcase of talent. The premier event is expected to draw the continent’s finest amateur golfers to battle for glory and valuable global ranking points.
Powered by FirstBank, the tournament has consistently strengthened the popularity and rich heritage of several sporting events and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to the development of sporting talent in Nigeria.
Recognised by the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), the Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship stands as one of the most sought-after amateur golf tournaments in the West African sub-region.
The stage is officially set for a high-stakes, 54-hole masterclass that will further cement the financial institution’s premier legacy in golf.
Last year, Osun-based Babatunde Oyalami stole the show, winning the tournament’s coveted trophy after grossing a score of 231 over 54 holes at the Ikoyi Club.
Oyalami carded an opening 78, a second-day score of 75, and a closing 78 to win the title by three shots.
The tournament is fully recognised by the United States Golf Association (USGA) and The R&A, which allows competing amateur golfers to earn vital WAGR points to boost their international standings.
