The APC Youth Network West Africa has announced plans to sponsor 1,000 Nigerian youths living in South Africa to travel home and vote in the forthcoming presidential election.
The network’s Director-General, Olatunde Gideon Igbasan, announced the proposed initiative during a peace walk organised by the group in Cape Town, South Africa.
According to the organisers, the initiative is aimed at encouraging eligible Nigerian voters in the diaspora to participate in the country’s electoral process.
However, details of the proposed sponsorship, including eligibility requirements, travel arrangements and implementation timelines, were not disclosed.
The peace walk, which began at the Mandela Glasses sculpture on the Sea Point Promenade and proceeded along the beachfront, attracted participants who braved cold and windy weather to express support for President Bola Tinubu and the network’s political agenda.
Igbasan, who sponsored the event, urged Nigerian youths to reject violence and embrace peaceful political engagement, constructive dialogue and democratic processes.
He said young people had an important role to play in shaping Nigeria’s political future and encouraged those living abroad to remain engaged with developments in the country.
The director-general also called on Nigerians in South Africa who might be unable to travel home to maintain contact with their families and communities and encourage informed participation in the electoral process.
He expressed support for Tinubu’s administration, arguing that its policies and initiatives deserved an opportunity to continue.
The South African activities were coordinated by Tabiti Adeyemi Samuel, according to the organisers.
The network said the peace walk formed part of its broader efforts to mobilise young people, promote non-violence and strengthen political engagement among Nigerians living abroad.
The announcement comes as political groups intensify mobilisation ahead of Nigeria’s next electoral cycle. However, the proposed travel sponsorship would require further details to establish how beneficiaries would be selected and how the initiative would be implemented.
The APC Youth Network West Africa is a youth-focused political organisation involved in grassroots mobilisation and political outreach across West Africa and among Nigerians in the diaspora.
