The Military Pensions Board (MPB) has honoured a 98-year-old retired Warrant Officer, Echenim Emmanuel Ewemiwe, during a visit to Ute-Erumu in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State to celebrate his birthday.
The delegation, led by the Chairman of the board, Major General JE Osifo, visited the veteran as part of activities marking his 98th birthday anniversary.
In a statement signed by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Squadron Leader Aliyu Muhammed, the delegation included Navy Commodore Galadima Ciroma, Director of Navy Pensions, and Captain Robertson Akpojovwo, Chairman of the Delta State Legion.
The celebration attracted family members, friends and well-wishers, who gathered to honour the veteran’s life and military service. The event featured cultural performances and traditional dances.
Speaking at the occasion, Osifo acknowledged the sacrifices and contributions of military veterans across the country, reaffirming the board’s commitment to their welfare and well-being.
He said the welfare of veterans remained a priority for the board, adding that their contributions to the country deserved recognition and appreciation.
Other dignitaries at the event included the Aruwe of Ute-Erumu, clergy members and community leaders.
In a vote of thanks, the family’s representative, retired Master Warrant Officer Chuks Echenim, expressed appreciation to the MPB chairman for travelling to Delta State to celebrate with his father.
The visit, according to the board, reflects its recognition of the sacrifices made by military veterans and its commitment to preserving their dignity and honouring their service beyond the administration of pension benefits.
