No fewer than 500 indigenes of Isoko North Local Government Area have benefited from an empowerment programme organised by the Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, as part of activities marking his birthday celebration.
The beneficiaries received cash grants, motorcycles, tricycles, solar-powered freezers and refrigerators, solar-powered generators and fuel-powered generators aimed at improving their economic conditions and strengthening small-scale businesses across the area.
The empowerment programme, which was dedicated to Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, in recognition of his leadership and commitment to grassroots development, was held at the commissioner’s country home in Ovrode, Isoko Nation, over the weekend.
The initiative, which brought together political leaders, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, women and youth groups, was designed to provide economic opportunities for beneficiaries, particularly petty traders, food vendors, transport operators and other small-scale entrepreneurs.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Onojaeme said he considered it more meaningful to celebrate his birthday by giving back to society and extending economic opportunities to people, particularly those who needed support to improve their livelihoods.
He explained that the decision to empower more than 500 people was driven by his desire to make a positive difference in the lives of members of his community rather than limit his birthday celebration to conventional festivities.
The commissioner urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items and financial assistance provided, stressing that the ultimate objective was to promote self-reliance, stimulate economic activities and improve the living conditions of individuals and families.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of the people and called on residents of Isoko North to sustain their support for Governor Oborevwori’s administration and its MORE Agenda.
Onojaeme said the Oborevwori administration had recorded appreciable progress in infrastructure development, healthcare delivery, education, youth and women empowerment, as well as security.
According to him, the administration’s development agenda is creating opportunities and improving living conditions across different communities in Delta State.
He maintained that sustained support for the governor would further strengthen the government’s development efforts and consolidate ongoing projects and programmes across the state.
Some beneficiaries commended the commissioner for remembering the people during his birthday celebration, describing the initiative as a practical demonstration of generosity, compassion and commitment to grassroots economic development.
They expressed appreciation for the support, noting that the motorcycles, tricycles, refrigerators, freezers and generators would provide opportunities for income generation and help strengthen their respective businesses.
The event attracted prominent political and community leaders, including the Delta State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Solomon Arenyeka; the member representing Isoko Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Jonathan Ajirioghene Ukodhiko; and the APC Chairman for Delta South Senatorial District, Chief Emmanuel Agbamduba.
Also in attendance were the Delta State House of Assembly candidates for Isoko North Constituencies I and II, Orobosa Uzuazomaro Ashakah and Chief Frank Esiwo Ozue, alongside other party chieftains, traditional rulers, community leaders, women and youth organisation
