Succour came to pupils of the school complex made up of Community Primary School, Ewutuntun; State Primary School, Mafoluku; and State Primary School, Ewutuntun, when the Rotary Club of Maryland fulfilled its promise to erect a fence to ward off hoodlums that have made the school premises their second home.

During the commissioning of the project, the District 9110 Governor, Rotary International, Dr. Wale Ogunbadejo, said the purpose of carrying out the project was to secure the lives of pupils and create a conducive environment for them to learn.

“Where children come to school and begin to see obscene objects like condoms, we believe it is not ideal for children at this stage of their lives. We have therefore come to contribute our own quota by putting up this fence as one of the six areas of focus of Rotary International.

President of the club, George Ikpekhia, said the kind of perversion being wrought by hoodlums who took the advantage of the free entry into the school to perpetuate sexual immoralities after the children must have closed, informed the siting of the fence.

“One cannot imagine children less than the age of 12 coming to school and seeing those kind of things, which could pollute their minds at their tender age.

What we have therefore done was to mitigate hardship that had been coming along with learning in this type of environment and we hope the school and the local government would see to the maintenance of the fence,” he said.

He disclosed that the club had provided water and toilets for the school previously before building the fence. He also made known the club’s intending project of building a block of six classrooms at Epe as part of their activities to touch lives.

Headmistress, State Primary School, Ewutuntun, Mrs. Serifat Ojugbele, who spoke on behalf of the three headmistresses, said they were happy that the club came to fulfill its promise that they would build the fence after the provision of toilets and water. She promised that adequate measures would be taken to maintain the fence.
