CITN links tax reform’s success to professionalism

The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) said that Nigeria’s ongoing tax reforms, which are expected to take full effect in January, will require a more efficient, ethical and professionally-grounded tax workforce to support the evolving fiscal landscape.

President and Chairman of Council, CITN, Innocent Ohagwa, said this at this year’s fellowship conferment to about 685 fellows of the institute.
He said being elevated to the rank of a fellow comes with the responsibility to uphold the highest ideas of the profession.

He said it also always demonstrated the technical competence and ethics, as well as professional excellence in the practice of taxation in Nigeria.

According to him, the ongoing tax reform represents one of the most robust and decisive shifts towards a more efficient, streamlined and technologically-driven tax administration in Nigeria.

Hence, Ohagwa said, tax professionals of the CITN remained central to the effective translation of the commendable policy and legal frameworks into action.

As new fellows and senior ambassadors of the profession, the CITN boss urged them to lead the way by being relevant through more investment in knowledge and being abreast of recent developments in taxation and finance.

The Special guest and Managing Partner, TAC Professional Services, Tunde Adaramaja, urged the new fellows to remain steadfast in upholding the values and principles that define the institute, highlighting the principles of integrity, professionalism, accountability and service.

He equally urged them to continue to invest in their professional growth to contribute actively to the growth of the institute and the nation at large.
