Health workers task government on salary arrears

The Katsina State Medical and Health Workers Union has called on the state government to pay the 16 months salary arrears owed them.Speaking on the issue Katina, chairman of the union, Hussaini Hamisu said members of the union have been suffering due to non-payment of the arrears.

The Katsina State Medical and Health Workers Union has called on the state government to pay the 16 months salary arrears owed them.Speaking on the issue Katina, chairman of the union, Hussaini Hamisu said members of the union have been suffering due to non-payment of the arrears.

Hamisu said more than 8,000 workers were affected across the state, and that the union was demanding payment of the money in order to alleviate the inconveniences the workers are going through.

He said the state governor, Aminu Masari, had promised to settle the arrears sometime in June 2016, even as he wondered what was delaying it.
He said going with the time lapse, the union had expected that the arrears would have become a past issue.Hamisu said government should look into the issue and expedite action as doing so would help workers put in their best at their places of work.

He said health workers have sacrificed a lot to keep the sector going, and that paying the arrears would greatly motivate them at providing quality service to the people.
