IoD holds Walk4Life to promote healthy lifestyle
The Institute of Directors (IoD), at the weekend, held it first quarter walk exercise to promote healthy lifestyle for its members.Captured, Walk4Life, the members participated in the one hour, 30 minutes walk exercise, which took place from its secretariat at 28 Cameron road, Ikoyi, and its environs.
The Commercial Director, East West Central and Lusophone Africa, Delta Air Lines, Bobby Bryan flagged it off.The exercise witnessed a large turn out of the directors, including health officials, while security officers kept watch.
The President and Chairman of Council, IoD Nigeria, Alhaji Ahmed Rufai Mohammed, said the focus of the quarterly Walk4Life was to make people look healthy. He added that most of them are always entrenched to their seats, carrying out official duties for their organisations, without having the time to exercise regularly. He said: “We need to get them off their desks and begin to make them understand that there is another life.
“If you are not careful, you would develop certain illnesses that come through your work culture, and this is one of the ways we can help to cure the culture of being in the car, offices and at meetings all the time.”He stressed that being healthy brings happiness to one’s life.He explained that the IoD is poised to ensure that the members are not just doing directors’ issue; but also looking at their health.
“We say health is wealth, if you are not healthy, you won’t be able to do anything and it’s not a question of long life, but how healthy you stay while you are alive,” he said.Mohammed encouraged members to come alongside their wives and children to create a healthy family.
A past president of the institute, Femi Ekundayo, told The Guardian that the exercise is an avenue that brings the IoD members together. He added that it is a good marketing platform through which corporate bodies could come together to see the values in themselves.
