ITF harps on workforce training for national productivity
The Industrial Training Funds (ITF), Lagos chapter, has urged organisations to take up the responsibility of training their workforce for workplace productivity.
Vyas NNa, Vice President of Sunflag Group, made this call during his presentation at the eighth interactive forum with clients of the ITF on re-skilling and up-skilling the workforce for future and the role of management. He said in view of technological advancement, employees need new skills in technologies to meet up with future trends and to avoid machine taking over their roles.
Vyas said: “Recent Infographics by Bango predicted that in the next four years, robots will take over 42 percent tasks in the workplace, while humans take over 42 percent from the overall task, and as such, individuals need to engage in life-long learning if they want to achieve fulfilling and rewarding careers.”
Company leaders, he added, need to focus on assessing where their company is today and its destination, advance at scale and integrate new innovations for diversity. The Deputy Director and Area Manager of ITF, Mary Katugwa, listed some cardinal contributions of ITF towards developing employees by providing direct and indirect training, vocational and apprentice training, research and consultancy, among others.
Over four decades, Katugwa argued that industrial training fund has made noticeable impact in the area of building graduates capacity, self-empowerment and preparing youth for future workforce.“Let me reiterate that the main thrust of ITF programmes and services is to stimulate human performance, improve productivity and induce value added services in the public and private sectors of the economy,” she said.
Again, the Area Manager, Usman Danji, who spoke on behalf of the Director-General, said that ITF is a specialised agency of the Federal Government that is saddled with the mandate of providing and encouraging employers of labour to equip their workforce with the requisite skills needed to enhance their job performance.Katugwa applauded committed employers and stakeholders that had consistently paid one per cent of their annual total payroll to ITF, as training contribution without defaulting.
