The House of Representatives member representing Ezza North/Ishielu Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State, Honourable Anayo Nwonu has organized skill acquisition training for some members of the constituency.

Besides the training scheme, he also reconstructed Ekka, Ogboji, Inyere and Nkomorro roads. After the training, the lawmaker also distributed over 60 motor bikes, sewing and grinding machines and cash to the youths, secured federal jobs for over 30 unemployed youths, sank over 10 boreholes across the two council areas and attracted the renovation of agricultural rural feeder roads in Ezza North.

The capacity building for 70 youths, which was done in partnership with Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), would train the participants in various skills acquisition such as beads-making, confectionaries and GSM repairs.

Speaking at the commencement of the training session, Anayo said the exercise became important due to economic realities of the day and the need to explore other skills for diversifying the economy and reduce unemployment in the state.

He added that it was part of his campaign promises to the people adding that his office would provide take-off capital for the participants to start their own business at the end of the training.

He disclosed that his target was to make the youths self-reliant and employers of labour rather than job seekers, noting that the most successful men and women all over the world had their roots in small-scale business even as he urged them to take advantage of the exercise and equip themselves financially.

“I therefore urged you to take the advantage of the programme and the empowerment programmes of the state government to equip yourselves against economic realities caused by the dwindling oil revenues in the country,” he said.
