Lawmaker offers 100 indigent students scholarship in Edo

A Lawmaker and member representing Esan South-East constituency in the Edo House of Assembly, Festus Igbelekoto has offered scholarship to 100 secondary school students from his constituency to university level.

A Lawmaker and member representing Esan South-East constituency in the Edo House of Assembly, Festus Igbelekoto has offered scholarship to 100 secondary school students from his constituency to university level.
 
The students were also presented with cash rewards to assist them in the payment of their West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC) enrolment fees.
 
Igbelekoto said the scholarship programme for the 100 students was designed to encourage the students in his constituency in the field of sciences.

 
”The beneficiaries were selected after scaling through a competitive examination in Mathematics after which 10 from each of the 10 ward were selected for the award. The scholarship awards is to encourage the educational pursuits of indigent brilliant students and those with financial challenges,” he said.
 
The lawmaker while presenting his mid-term report to his constituents said the scholarship scheme started in 2015 with the award of scholarship to 5 fatherless children.
 
He listed the projects executed so far to include construction of a block of three classrooms with offices at Uzebu primary school, Ewohim, re-electrification of Orhodua community and the on-going construction of a block of three classrooms with offices at Ukakpa secondary school.
 
Others are the provisions of desk and chairs to over 800 pupils in primary schools across Esan South East constituency among others.
 
The highpoint of the event was the presentation of cash reward and instructional materials to the beneficiaries.
 
The Event was attended by representatives of the deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, the deputy Speaker, Victor Edoror and members representing (APC Etsako central constituency, Damian Lawani) .
