A former assistant director, Department of State Services (DSS), and one of Nigeria’s leading practitioners in the private security sector, Dennis Amachree, has been honoured with the Outstanding Security Performance Awards (OSPAs) Lifetime Achievement Award 2020.

The Managing Director of the OSPA, Professor Martin Gill of the University of Leicester, announced the award in the first virtual presentation, after a Thought Leadership Webinar, titled: “The impact of Covid-19 in Nigeria: What has been the impact and the security response?” The event was organized in partnership with Securex West Africa.

Amachree, a former Senior Regional Security Director for General Electric (GE) in sub-Saharan Africa, also holds Nigeria’s national honour as Member, Order of the Niger (MON) among other awards he has received over the years for his contributions to national development, particularly in the area of security.

In a statement by the organizers of the Award, “OSPA winners were selected by an esteemed panel of industry figures who judged entries using the same criteria, which are applied across the world. Each winner demonstrated that he or she had performed at an exceptional level and has shown commitment and outstanding performance within the security sector.”

The former DSS chief and currently Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Zoom Lens Security Consult, is a renowned security consultant.

He was selected for the 2020 Lifetime Achievement in Security Award, which is the highest award category of the OSPAs, for his contributions to the growth and development of Nigeria’s public and industrial security sector in the past 36 years.

Prior to his engagement at General Electric (GE), Amachree was the Country Security Manager for Halliburton Energy Services, and Addax Petroleum Development Company, during the height of militancy in the Niger Delta. He had ensured adequate protection of human and technical assets of the companies.

The recent event was the fourth edition of the Awards in Nigeria. OSPA recognizes and rewards companies and individuals in the security profession, globally.

Amachree, quite elated for the recognition and honour accorded him through the Award, expressed appreciation to the organizers “for bringing this global award that recognizes excellence in security to Nigeria.”
