Varsity embarks on training programme for artisans

RHEMA University based in Aba has begun a Certificate Training Programme (CTP) for artisans in Abia State.

The varsity’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ogbonnaya Onwudike, said this during a tour of the facilities, recently.

He said that the certificate programme, targeted at Abia artisans and the business community, was repositioned to produce products and services that could effectively compete globally.

Stating that it would focus on public and industry needs, he said the move was also an opportunity for the artisans to be better trained to improve and manage their trades and businesses.

For better operations, Onwudike urged that the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) extend funding to private institutions in the country.

Commending the initiatives, the state-based technicians said that establishing such institutions and training, as well as awarding them certificates after completion of the programme, would positively impact their operations.

The Guardian gathered that presently, there is only one private university at Aba and the state government-owned Polytechnic, is expected to initiate and undertake such a programme for artisans.
