The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has vowed to resist attempts by a few suspended members allegedly planning to destroy the union.

The union, in a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Alade Lawal, had the chairmen of all the units of the association in all the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in Abuja, declared that those bent on derailing the association would have them to contend with.

At the end of a mass meeting by the union in Abuja, the chairmen of all MDAs declared that those bent on allegedly undermining the only standing union in the public service for personal aggrandisement would have them and other members to contend with.

In a communiqué issued at the end of their deliberations, they condemned in strong terms malicious publications by unscrupulous and disgruntled persons designed to tarnish the image of the association and its leaders.

According to the communiqué, the meeting urged the leadership of the association to take appropriate actions against those behind the online publication of falsehood against the union and its leadership.

The meeting also urged the leadership of the association to expel any other member of staff of the union, who is found to be relating directly or indirectly with those bent on destroying the association and bringing its leaders to disrepute.

They equally passed a vote of confidence on the national president of the association, Tommy Okon, the Secretary-General, Alade Lawal and all the principal officers of the association.

“We equally call on the teeming members of the association in Abuja and the 36 states of the federation to continue to support the current national leadership of the union that has demonstrated unparalleled commitment towards the pursuit of members’ welfare.

“The claim that the union’s property housing its national secretariat in Lagos and the building under construction in Abuja had been sold was false.”

Meanwhile, a communique signed by the Chairman and Secretary of Lagos State chapter of ASCSN, Olusegun Balogun and Akeem Kazeem, respectively, after its branch meeting, pledged loyalty to the national body.

The branch equally passed a vote of confidence on the leaders, headed by Tommy Okon. The communique explained that the branch dissociates  from any member of the branch in whatever capacity or under whatever guise, who are part of the plot to distabilise the union.

The branch leadership “assured all members that the union is united and remain one happy family, and that members should not listen to those itinerant trouble maker who have lost out all fronts and are hell bent in ensuring that the union sink along with them,” the statement said.
