ANA Bauchi to mark World Book Day

In commemoration of World Book Day 2017, the Association of Nigerian Authors, Bauchi Chapter, in collaboration with a Bauchi-based private school, Alfalfa School of Phonics, will on Thursday, March 2, 2017 organise a series of activities to celebrate the day. One of the activities will be a lecture, with the theme, ‘Improving the Reading Culture in Nigeria,’ which will be delivered by a former president of the association, Dr. Wale Okediran.

According to the chapter chairman, Kabiru Abdullahi, the event, the first of its kind in Bauchi State, will take place at the City of Books, Bank Road, Bauchi, and will start 9am. To attend will be writers, literary scholars, students and other book lovers, including the current ANA president, Mallam Denja Abdullahi, who will be the special guest of honour.

The World Book Day celebration was initiated by UNESCO on April 23, 1995 and is celebrated worldwide. However, in the United Kingdom, World Book Day is held annually on the first Thursday in March, and celebrated by authors, illustrators and book lovers to encourage reading. A worldwide celebration of books and reading, the event is usually celebrated annually in more than 100 countries.
