The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has announced a special screening of Zack Snyder’s The Last Photograph, which will make its World Premiere at 6:30pm on Sunday, September 13, in the John Bassett Theatre, TIFF’s new screening venue at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Starring Stuart Martin (Army of Thieves) and Fra Free (Hawkeye), the latest from Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen, Man of Steel) follows an ex-DEA agent seeking revenge in a South American jungle where dangerous terrain and inner demons intermingle. Tickets Sold Out For World Premiere Of Nigeria’s Secret Lives Of Baba Segi’s Wives
ALL three screenings of the screen adaptation of Lola Shoneyin’s 2010 debut novel ‘The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives’ including the world premiere on September 13, is sold out! Directed by Daniel Oriahi and executive produced by a team lead by EbonyLife Group Managing Director Mo Abudu, critics have described Oriahi’s interpretation of The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives as sharp, funny, and thought provoking. Like the novel, this adaptation presents a devastating portrait of polygamous family life in contemporary Nigeria. The narrative revolves round Baba Segi (played by award winning actor Odunlade Adekola), a wealthy and haughty patriarch, who spent years building a household, and marrying several women in the process. Baba Segi has as his first wife Iya Segi (Iyabo Ojo), second, Iya Tope (Mercy Aigbe), third, Iya Femi (Bimbo Ademoye), and the fourth and youngest, university-educated yet naïve Bolanle (Omowunmi Dada). The new wife upsets the tentative balance struck by the first three wives, who have been locked into rivalries, secrets, and mutual survival strategies, each trying to solidify their own status. An enquiry on why the youngest wife failed to conceive, set off a chain of revelations that unravel the fragile order holding the household together. The film features many of Nollywood’s finest talents.

African Cinema Makes Strong Presence At TIFF
THERE is a strong presence of African cinema at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival. Ten African films are featuring on the festival programme. A major platform for African filmmakers at this year’s TIFF will be Global African Hub backed by pan-African institution Canex Creations, a subsidiary of Afreximbank’s Fund for Export Development in Africa. Canex Creations was launched in 2025 to help expand the reach of the continent’s creative sector. The Global African hub aims at providing a base for the continent’s filmmakers and executives to connect with international partners at the TIFF market. The hub is widely considered as a significant step up for Canex, which last year attended with short film, Dust to Dreams, directed by Idris Elba. Five African productions and co-pros are featuring in the festival’s Centrepiece. The five films are The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives, Ben’Imana Congo Boy, Future Tense and Soumsoum and The Night of the Stars. John Trengove’s The Smell of Apples will also world premiere in Platform, while Ghanaian feature Zjili: A Story of Sisterhood and the Burdens of Excess will screen in Discovery. Six African works-in-progress will also have market screenings at TIFF.

Final Honouree For TIFF 2026 Named
THE Toronto Film Festival (TIFF) CEO Cameron Bailey has shared the list of the final honourees of this year’s TIFF Tribute Awards, presented in partnership with Rolex. Academy Award–winning legend Helen Mirren will receive the TIFF Share Her Journey Groundbreaker Award, presented by Joanna Griffiths and the Women of Knix; acclaimed cinematographer Adam Pietkiewicz will receive the TIFF Variety Artisan Award; beloved Canadian actor, writer, director, and producer Seth Rogen will be presented with the TIFF Norman Jewison Career Achievement Award, presented by The Budman Family; and award-winning filmmaker Bassam Tariq will receive the TIFF Rising Talent Award. An additional TIFF Special Tribute Award will be presented to global superstar Fan Bingbing. Honourees will be joining previously announced recipients Penélope Cruz, Lee Chang-dong, Rosalind Eleazar, Siân Heder, and Isabelle Huppert. “Helen Mirren and Fan Bingbing bring bold, compelling performances to this year’s Festival, building on iconic bodies of work,” said Cameron Bailey, CEO, TIFF.

The evening will see industry peers, international filmmakers, and distinguished honourees gathered to celebrate cinematic excellence as awards are formally presented during an intimate ceremony, with the full list of presenters to be announced on September 9.
