For African culture, Ogelle goes live

There seems a new hope for Africa’s endangered culture with the launch of Ogelle, the continent’s first online resource and entertainment user generated content platform.

The platform is coming at a time when Africa’s cultures are under serious threat from modernity as Africans are gradually abandoning their traditions for western cultures that are often used as a measure of civilisation and progress.

Specifically in Nigeria, over 500 languages are dying as more indigenous speakers move to urban areas and fail to teach their children their native tongue.

Ogelle, dubbed Africa’s own YouTube, focuses 100 percent on African content from films, music, comedy, tourism, cuisine, vocation, news and lifestyle.

It provides multiple opportunities for African content producers, whose work will now be available around the world, providing these producers a global voice. It also gives content developers the opportunity to monetise their content, offering in the process a cost-effective distribution channel.

Developed by Reddot Television Network Limited, Ogelle further presents an avenue for learning through vocation training content creators known as ‘Ogelle Vocation’.

With the slogan, ‘Africa Is Content’, the platform can be accessed through a website, on television or as an application, which can be downloaded on the Apple AppStore or the GooglePlay store.

Speaking during the official launching of the platform recently in Lagos, the Chief Executive Officer, Ogelle, Osita Oparaugo, said that the Western communities gave recycled all their contents and have come to realised that the originality lies in Africa, which has made its content sort after globally.

He said the online platform presents world-class content that is rich in Africa’s customs and traditions, bold, diverse and globally appealing, assuring that it will revolutionise the way African content is served.

“Ogelle is not a television station rather a resource and entertainment platform where the general users can create their own channels, create their own content, upload same on Ogelle and the world is watching. With Ogelle, every African now has the opportunity to launch his or her own online television channel.

“Our key strength lies in our extensive knowledge base of the creative sector backed up by a network of commercial relationships, which provides Ogelle with the opportunity to act as the bridge between creative content creators and consumers globally,” read an official statement by the company, announcing the launch

“At the same time, we create competitive returns for content creators by monetising any content that exceeds 100,000 views produced in line with our partner programme. Please read Ogelle Partner Program (OPP) for eligibility.”

Oparaugo explained that the platform was created in collaboration with a team of global experts, industry insiders in content creation, acquisitions, distribution, film financing and film production. “Together, we leveraged our Pan African and Global network of relationships to establish Ogelle as the first only Africa content UGC resource and entertainment center,” it concluded.
