Not all dreams are spiritual, author tells Nigerians

Author and media entrepreneur, Idara Mowette, has called for a more balanced approach to understanding dreams, urging people to move away from the widespread belief that every dream carries a spiritual meaning.

Idara Mowette made the call while speaking on the inspiration behind her newly released book, The Fourfold Dream Theory: A Beginner’s Doorway to Demystifying Dreams, which seeks to broaden conversations around dream interpretation through a structured framework.

According to her, while history and religious traditions acknowledge that some dreams can convey divine messages or significant revelations, it is misleading to assume that every dream should be interpreted through a single spiritual lens.

She noted that dreams are influenced by several factors, including emotions, memories, fears, desires, physical health, daily experiences and imagination, making it necessary to adopt a more nuanced understanding of the subject.

“One of the greatest mistakes we can make is forcing every dream into a single explanation. Human beings are complex, and our dreams reflect that complexity. While some dreams may carry profound spiritual significance, others may simply be shaped by the many dimensions of human experience,” she said.

Idara Mowette explained that common dreams, such as eating or engaging in sexual activity during sleep, often generate fear because many people have been taught that such experiences have only one interpretation.

She argued that similar dreams could arise from different circumstances and, therefore, should not automatically attract identical conclusions.

According to the author, rather than asking whether every dream is spiritual, people should first seek to understand the nature and category of the dream they are experiencing.

She said her book introduces readers to a framework that classifies dreams into different categories instead of attempting to provide a universal interpretation for every dream.

“The goal is not to dismiss the possibility of divine communication but to encourage curiosity, discernment and balance before arriving at conclusions about our dreams,” she added.

Idara Mowette, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Daragram, a digital media and creative agency, said the publication is the result of years of observation, reflection and study into the nature of dreams.

A graduate of Caleb University, she is also a content creator, poet and writer. The Fourfold Dream Theory is her debut publication and is aimed at helping readers develop a more informed and thoughtful perspective on one of humanity’s most enduring mysteries.
