Three people have been rushed to hospital after a suspected brake failure involving a Mack flatbed truck caused a serious multi-vehicle crash along the LASU–Isheri Road in the Igando area of Lagos on Wednesday.The accident occurred around the Iyana School axis when the truck reportedly lost braking power, veered out of control and slammed into a Toyota vehicle and two commercial tricycles, leaving occupants trapped in the wreckage.

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), who were on patrol in the area, responded immediately to the scene, rescuing the injured victims and coordinating efforts to prevent further accidents.The injured, identified as one man and two women, sustained severe fractures and were taken to El-Shaddai Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

According to LASTMA, preliminary findings indicate that the truck’s braking system failed, causing the driver to lose control before the collision.The agency said its emergency response team worked with officers from the Iba Police Division to remove the damaged vehicles from the roadway and restore normal traffic movement along the busy corridor.

Traffic officials also remained at the scene to manage vehicle movement while the evacuation operation was underway, helping to minimise congestion and reduce the risk of secondary crashes.
Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki praised the swift response of the agency’s personnel and stressed the importance of regular maintenance for heavy-duty vehicles.

He urged operators of trucks and other articulated vehicles to carry out routine mechanical inspections, especially on critical components such as braking systems, to reduce the occurrence of preventable road crashes across Lagos State. Authorities are expected to continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
