A Nigerian Air Force helicopter made an emergency landing on farmland in Makurdi, Benue State, on Wednesday after reportedly developing a technical fault, with all those on board said to have survived.
The aircraft landed in Utur Tse-Igboji community, Bar Council Ward, along the Welfare Quarters–Mopol 13 Ring Road, according to Stephen Ikpam, who said he was at the scene.
Ikpam said the helicopter appeared to have made the emergency landing after developing a technical problem.
Residents reportedly gathered at the scene shortly after the aircraft came down on the farmland.
There were no immediate reports of deaths or serious injuries among those on board.
Details of the aircraft, including its registration, the number of passengers and crew on board and the nature of the reported technical fault, were not immediately available.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear as of Wednesday night.
The Nigerian Air Force had yet to issue an official statement confirming the emergency landing or providing details of the incident.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, have agreed to deepen collaboration to enhance aviation safety, airworthiness, certification, training and capacity building in civil and military aviation.
The development followed the tragic Nigerian Air Force aircraft incident at Igbokoda, Ondo State.
The Minister during a courtesy visit to Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke to sign a condolences register at the Nigeria Defense Headquarters disclosed plans for a new framework for closer cooperation between civil and military aviation authorities.
Keyamo, while offering his condolences, said, “We value the Air Force. We value the efforts of the gallant men and women of the Air Force and what they do for the country,” the Minister said.
