Again, LIRS extends the tax filing deadline to April 21

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service has extended the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns to April 21, 2026.

The agency disclosed this in a statement signed by LIRS Head, Corporate Communications, Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, who said the extension follows increased traffic on its electronic filing platform as taxpayers rushed to meet the previous deadline of April 14.

It explained that the additional time is to enable taxpayers to complete their filings without disruption and ensure the accuracy of submissions.

“Following the earlier extension granted to 14 April 2026, the Agency has observed a significant increase in traffic on its eTax platform as more taxpayers endeavour to meet the filing deadline”.

The tax authority described the new date as a final extension and urged eligible residents to comply within the window. It reiterated that filing annual tax returns remains a statutory obligation.

LIRS also stressed that all returns must be submitted electronically through its eTax platform, the only approved channel.

The deadline was initially set for March 31 before it was first moved to April 14.
