The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo and Chairman of Air Peace Ltd., Dr Allen Onyema, are among the dignitaries who would attend the forthcoming 30th annual conference of the League of Airports and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC).

The conference, scheduled for Thursday, September 10, in Lagos, would bring together key players in Nigeria’s aviation sector to examine growing concerns about government revenue demands and their impact on the industry’s sustainability and competitiveness.

The conference, with the theme: ‘Towards a Sustainable Aviation Industry: Balancing Government Revenue Demands with Sector Growth’, is expected to provide a platform for policymakers, regulators, airline operators, airport managers, investors, and other industry stakeholders to deliberate on major fiscal and structural challenges confronting the sector.

Keyamo is expected to attend as the Special Guest of Honour, while Onyema would deliver the keynote address.

Speaking on the forthcoming event, Chairman, Conference Committee, LAAC, Wole Shadare, said the theme was particularly relevant at a time when the industry was at a critical point in its development.

Shadare said the aviation sector remained a strategic driver of economic development, trade, tourism and national integration, but noted that increasing fiscal pressures and multiple charges had continued to generate concerns among operators and investors.

He said: “The aviation industry remains a strategic driver of economic development, trade, tourism and national integration.

“However, increasing fiscal pressures and multiple charges have continued to generate conversations about the need to strike a balance between government revenue generation and the growth of the industry.”
