Smile begins voice service, pegs call rate at 8k/sec

With its Universal Access Service License (UASL), Smile Communications has formally introduced its call service in the country.Smile, said its voice service offering will increase the competitiveness of the telecommunications market.

With its Universal Access Service License (UASL), Smile Communications has formally introduced its call service in the country.Smile, said its voice service offering will increase the competitiveness of the telecommunications market. Specifically, the telecommunications firm said cost on its network is eight kobo per seconds to any network in the country against industry standard of 11 kobo.

Speaking at the media unveiling of the new value proposition tagged: SmileVoice, the Managing Director of Smiles, Godfrey Efeurhobo, said the firm is offering the lowest call tariff in Nigeria, which is aimed at repositioning the country’s telecommunications sector for greatness.

According to him, SmileVoice is an industry first with successful test calls made on October 28, 2015 and the commercial launch on March 8, 2016.He explained that to access SmilVoice, a Voice over Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) phone or the Free App is required, stressing that the SmileVoice App is the first 4GLTE voice App launched in the world.

He said the SmileData plan gives all customers’ data, voice and SMS, “with SmileVoice you can call anyone on any number, anywhere in Nigeria and the world. Use a VoLTE handset with your Smile SIM card or download our Free SmileVoice App on your mobile today and enjoy super clear calls at 8k/sec that connect the first time.

“Smile is Nigeria’s premier 4G LTE operator with coverage in eight cities, with plans to roll out services in more cities in Nigeria. Smile possesses a Universal Access Service License (UASL), which means that it is a full communications company, and not an ISP, albeit providing services using the latest 4G LTE technology.”

Providing more insight into the new proposition, Group Head of Communications and Marketing, Van Zyl, said SmileVoice only plan is available at N1000 with 200 minutes at eight kobo per seconds.

Zyl said SmileVoice is different because it runs on 4G/LTE network; flexibility to use one data bundle for calling and messaging; ability to have two numbers on one mobile phone; the network has capacity to ensure quality and reliable service, among others.
