Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in collaboration with the Nigerian Breweries Plc through its ‘Don’t Drink and Drive’ Campaign, has engaged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Abia State to enlighten them on the need for a responsible approach to the consumption of beverage alcohol.

The Public Affairs Manager, East, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Uzodinma Odenigbo, in his presentation noted that promoting responsible consumption of the company’s brands among its numerous consumers was a key component of its corporate social responsibility initiatives and sustainability agenda, Brewing a Better World.

He advised corps members including those who had access to cars and driving as well as others who were yet to acquire driving skills to avoid drinking and driving.

The Sector Commander, FRSC, Abia State, Meshach Jatau, reminded the youths that they had a major role to play in promoting safety on Nigerian roads both now and in future through an informed and responsible behaviour towards alcohol and driving. He advised corps members to embrace the message of responsible alcohol consumption and avoid the norm of “one for the road” in order to promote safe driving on our roads.

During the event, a medical doctor while talking on the nature of alcohol and the human body noted that the consumption of alcoholic beverages is common in many parts of the world.

He said that due to the negative impact of irresponsible consumption on the human body, those who choose to drink must do so in moderation and avoid drink driving to ensure healthy living as well as safety.
