Golden Fertilizer reaches 7,500 farmers across six states, targets higher yields

Golden Fertilizer has reached over 7,500 farmers across six states through its 2026 Green Field Days programme focused on improving maize and soybean yields.

Golden Fertilizer, an agricultural input brand of FMN Agro Ltd, has reached more than 7,500 farmers across six states through its 2026 Green Field Days programme, as the company seeks to improve crop yields and strengthen smallholder farming.

The annual farmer training and empowerment programme, held from August 11 to 18 across Kano, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Kaduna and Niger states, covered about 3,000 hectares across 25 local government areas.

The programme focused on maize and soybean production, with projected yields of up to six tonnes per hectare for maize and three tonnes per hectare for soybean.

The Green Field Days are part of Golden Fertilizer’s broader Yield Transformation Agenda, which combines agricultural inputs, improved agronomic practices, technical knowledge and field demonstrations to help address productivity challenges among smallholder farmers.

During the field activities, farmers cultivated maize hybrids including PAC 105, LF 2025Y and LF 2025W, alongside the TGX 1951-3F soybean variety. The crops were supported with Golden Fertilizer NPK 20-10-10 and the Golden Soybean Blend.

The field demonstrations also provided farmers and agricultural stakeholders with opportunities to engage technical experts and gain practical knowledge on seed selection, fertiliser application and crop management.

Dr Aliyu Samaila, Head of Value Chain Development at Golden Fertilizer, said the company’s approach to yield improvement goes beyond increasing the quantity of inputs used by farmers.

“Yield transformation is not simply about applying more inputs. It is about helping farmers understand what to use, how to use it and how the right combination of inputs and agronomic practices can translate into better yields and better returns,” he said.

According to the company, more than 230,000 farmers have been reached through its farmer-focused programmes since their inception.

Golden Fertilizer said it is using the current farming season to deepen engagement with farmers, encourage more growers to adopt structured production practices and support existing farmers to expand their cultivated areas.

The company described the Green Field Days as part of a long-term effort to improve agricultural productivity, strengthen farm profitability and support the livelihoods of smallholder farmers.

It said its focus remains on expanding farmer participation and cultivated areas while improving yields and farm incomes across Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.
