Keystone Bank Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting climate action and sustainable development by partnering with the Lagos State Government to advance climate finance initiatives.
The bank made the commitment during the Climate Finance Preparedness Clinic (CFPC), a two-day programme organised by the Lagos State Government through the Office of Climate Change and Circular Economy (OCCE) at Keystone Bank’s headquarters in Lagos.
The event brought together representatives from government, financial institutions and development organisations to explore ways of strengthening the capacity of financial institutions to access, mobilise and deploy climate finance for sustainable development.
Speaking at the event, Keystone Bank’s Executive Director, Corporate Banking & South, Nnenna Anyim Okoro, said collaboration among key stakeholders was essential to mobilising capital for climate action.
“For us at Keystone Bank, we believe that sustainable development can only be achieved when financial institutions take deliberate steps to integrate climate considerations into their core business strategies.
“Climate finance requires a collective commitment from government, financial institutions, development partners and the private sector. Through initiatives like the Climate Finance Preparedness Clinic, we are fostering partnerships and building the capacity needed to move from conversations to practical action that delivers sustainable impact.”
She said the bank remained committed to developing innovative financing structures that would help unlock funding for climate-resilient infrastructure and other environmentally sustainable projects across Nigeria.
According to her, the lender also aims to improve access to domestic and international climate finance while supporting businesses seeking to transition to low-carbon and climate-resilient operations.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Climate Change and Circular Economy, Titilayo Oshodi, said the clinic was designed to strengthen the systems required to support climate finance.
“This clinic is not just about discussions; it is about strengthening the systems that connect policy, projects, institutions, data and investment.”
She said Lagos State remained committed to building a climate finance ecosystem capable of attracting investment, supporting sustainable projects and strengthening its position in sub-national climate action across Africa.
Oshodi also stressed the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors in achieving long-term climate objectives, noting that initiatives such as the Climate Finance Preparedness Clinic help bridge existing gaps within the climate finance landscape.
Discussions during the programme focused on climate finance opportunities, climate risk management, environmental, social and governance (ESG) integration, transition and blended finance, green lending, waste management, energy efficiency and opportunities within Nigeria’s emerging carbon market.
According to the organisers, the Climate Finance Preparedness Clinic forms part of broader efforts to accelerate investment in climate-resilient and low-carbon development while equipping stakeholders with the knowledge required to develop bankable climate projects and improve access to climate funding.
