The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr Pius Akutah, has underscored the importance of stakeholders’ engagement in fulfilling the Council’s mandate as the country’s port economic regulator.
Akutah made this remark during a courtesy visit by the executive members of the Senior Staff Association of Shipping, Clearing and Forwarding Agencies (SSACFA) to the NSC headquarters in Lagos.
Akutah expressed the Council’s readiness to partner with the association to drive the maritime sector forward.
He assured that the Council would listen to any issues brought to its attention and work collaboratively to address them.
On his part, the Director, Consumer Affairs Department of NSC, Mr. Celestine Akujobi, reiterated the Council’s openness to specific partnerships with stakeholders, highlighting its success in engaging with stakeholders, particularly the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) on minimum standard for workers’ wages.
Responding, the President General of SSACFA, Harrison Ugochukwu, acknowledged the council as the nation’s port economic regulator and sought its collaboration and guidance.
He called on the NSC to partner with the association, protect and provide regulatory advice on matters that would promote the development of the maritime sector.
