Lagos Area Committee of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) and Insurfeel Initiative have partnered to promote insurance awareness through the provision of free insurance coverage to students under ‘School Care Cover’.
The collaboration, according to the group, will enable students to enjoy free insurance protection against personal accidents while in school, on vacation or anywhere in Nigeria.
The initiative also provides payment of school fees to beneficiaries of the insured parent/ guardian in the event of permanent disability resulting from an accident and death.
Speaking on the initiative, the Chairman of the Lagos Area Committee of the NCRIB, Demola Olutusin, said the committee was committed to enhancing the education and safety of students, adding that the partnership would impact the lives of students, the insurance industry and the entire country.
Olutusin said the initiative would also enable students to understand and feel the touch and benefits of insurance, which remains the best tool to mitigate risks.
According to him, the area committee has adopted quiz competitions among schools as a means of introducing students to insurance early in their lives.
The promoter of the Initiative, Chuks Udo Okonta, described the partnership as a part of the advocacy strategy of the initiative, stressing that it entailed partnering organisations, associations and groups to adopt donations of free insurance policies to the uninsured in the society.
He said Insurfeel Initiative has donated two unique insurance policies to individuals who have never had insurance experience to feel how insurance works.
He implored organisations, especially within the insurance sector, to embrace the initiative and use it to offer insurance products as souvenirs to the public as against donating products from other sectors, while complaining about low insurance penetration.
