NIPCO Gas Limited has taken another bold step toward energy diversification and sustainable mobility with the commissioning of two Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations in Asaba and Warri, Delta State.

The development, according to the company, reinforces its position as a frontline player in expanding access to clean, affordable, and reliable fuel across Nigeria.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor of Delta State, Sheriff F. O. Oborevwori, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu, noted that the establishment of the CNG stations is a direct response to the economic realities faced by citizens following the fuel subsidy removal. He stated that the facilities will provide motorists and commercial transport operators with a cost-effective alternative to Premium Motor Spirit, thereby easing pressure on household incomes.

He pledged the state government’s continued support for investments in CNG infrastructure, conversion workshops, and technical training to build local capacity and ensure sustainability.

The Commissioner for Transport, AgofureOnoriode, described the initiative as a “game-changer” for the state’s transport sector.

According to him, the affordability and efficiency of CNG will translate to lower operating costs for commercial drivers, reduced fares for commuters over time, and improved profitability for logistics businesses.

“Delta State is proud to be at the forefront of this energy transition.”

We will work with all stakeholders to ensure our people maximise the benefits,” he added.

Speaking on behalf of NIPCO Gas Limited, the Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Sanjay Tarat affirmed the company’s long-term commitment to Nigeria’s gas-based economy.

He explained that continuous investment in CNG infrastructure is central to NIPCO Gas’s strategy for enhancing national energy security, reducing dependence on imported fuels, and promoting environmental stewardship.

“These stations are not just fuel points. They are enablers of economic activity, cleaner cities, and inclusive growth,” Tarat stated.
