NGF chief, Ojomo, deplores lack of standard golf courses in Nigeria
A DIRECTOR of the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF), Austin Esosa Ojomo, has deplored the lack of standard golf courses in the country, saying the situation contributes to stalling the growth of the game in the country.
Ojomo, a member of the Nigerian World Golfers Invitational (WGI) team to the recently concluded World Golfers Championship in Marbella, Spain, lamented that before his international debut, he thought that Ikoyi Club 1938 was one of the greatest golf courses around.
"But the more I got involved in international golf, the more I realised that our courses do not meet international standards," he said. "This is a competition I always look forward to because you play in different courses and get different experiences. Out there in Spain, most of the courses are built on mountain side, which we see here as wastelands."
