With the July 31 departure of the outgoing Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, President Bola Tinubu has named his successor. The new appointee is 39-year-old Professor Segun Aina.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed confidence that Professor Aina would deploy his extensive experience, expertise and practical understanding of the Board’s operations to build on the achievements recorded under his predecessor and further strengthen the institution.

The statement explained that Prof. Oloyede’s two-term tenure expires on July 31, 2026.

Here are seven things to know about the new Registrar.

1. Professor Aina will turn 40 in July, making him the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s 48-year-old history.

2. He studied in the United Kingdom, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from University of Kent.

3. He also obtained an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing, from Loughborough University.

4. Aina is currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and is regarded as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in the field.

5. He began his relationship with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained experience in admissions processing and data-driven institutional systems.

6. The new JAMB Registrar has worked with major examination bodies, including National Examinations Council (NECO) and National Business and Technical Examinations Board, focusing on ICT systems, examination integrity and digital reforms.

7. He belongs to several professional organisations, including Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and Institution of Engineering and Technology.
