…as Anglican Grammar School Ogbomoso marks 50 years

The Old Students Association of Anglican Grammar School, Ogbomoso (AGSO), has unveiled a four-day programme to mark the school’s 50th anniversary, with alumni and other stakeholders seeking renewed commitment to preserving its legacy and securing its future.

The Golden Jubilee celebration, scheduled for Thursday, September 24 to Sunday, September 27, 2026, is themed: “50 Years of Excellence: Preserving the Past, Securing the Present and Building the Future.”

Founded in 1976, Anglican Grammar School, Ogbomoso, has produced graduates who have distinguished themselves in various professions and endeavours in Nigeria and across the world.

The Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Mr. Akinola James (Kasla), said the anniversary was designed not only to celebrate five decades of the school’s achievements but also to contribute to its present development and future growth.

A major highlight of the celebration will be an anniversary lecture to be delivered by the Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Ogbomoso Zone 1, Rev. Dr P.O. Oyedokun.

The lecture is expected to provide an opportunity for stakeholders to reflect on the school’s achievements and examine the challenges and opportunities confronting secondary education and the institution’s future.

According to the programme, activities will begin on Thursday, September 24, with courtesy visits to strategic stakeholders and media organisations, followed by indoor and outdoor sporting activities at the school field.

The first day will also feature the planting of anniversary trees and the establishment of a memorial corner within the school premises to preserve the history and memories associated with its 50-year journey.

As part of efforts to extend the anniversary beyond celebration, the organisers have scheduled a health and medical intervention programme for old students, staff members and residents of the host community.

About 300 beneficiaries are expected to benefit from the medical outreach.

The programme will also feature a Golden Jubilee Luncheon and Award Ceremony at the school hall, where distinguished individuals, alumni and other contributors to the growth and development of the institution will be honoured.

The Alumni President, Professor Gbenga Bello, said the anniversary provided an opportunity for former students and other stakeholders to reconnect with their alma mater, celebrate its accomplishments and strengthen their collective commitment to its future.

Bello said the Golden Jubilee was more than a reunion, describing it as an opportunity to reflect on the institution’s contribution to academic excellence, character formation and service to society.

The four-day programme is expected to bring together generations of old students, teachers, staff, community leaders, stakeholders and friends of the institution as the school marks five decades of academic service.
