The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed N28.72 million in student loans to 522 students of Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State, under the Federal Government’s Student Loan Programme.
The disbursement fully covers the statutory charges of all verified applicants from the institution, enabling them to continue their education uninterrupted and in line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
This was disclosed in an acknowledgement letter addressed to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, by the university’s NELFUND Desk Officer and Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Abba Auwalu.
According to the letter, the N28,721,500 represents the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth (final) disbursements for the 2025/2026 academic session, paid in four separate tranches.
The breakdown shows that 195 students received N6.27 million in the sixth batch disbursed on March 9, 2026, while 129 students benefited from N3.84 million in the seventh batch released on March 23.
The eighth batch, disbursed on March 27, saw 19 students receive N637,000, while the largest tranche of N17.97 million was paid to 179 students in the ninth and final batch on April 27, 2026.
In the letter with reference number SLU/SAD/VC/001/VoL.III, the university expressed appreciation to NELFUND for the intervention and appealed for continued support in the next academic session.
The acknowledgement comes amid the continued expansion of the Federal Government’s student loan scheme, which is designed to improve access to higher education by easing the financial burden on students across public tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
