NDPHC expands dedicated power supply to businesses as Alaoji restores 450MW

Niger Delta Power Holding Company

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) is expanding efforts to connect more manufacturers, industries and large commercial operators to dedicated electricity supply through its Eligible Customer Programme, as the company moves to unlock more capacity from its generation portfolio.

The programme offers qualifying customers dedicated power supply under mutually agreed commercial arrangements, targeting businesses that require reliable and predictable electricity for their operations.

NDPHC Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, disclosed this during the commencement of the company’s Customer Service Week, urging more eligible businesses to take advantage of the programme.

“To our existing customers, thank you for your trust. To businesses yet to join, power your growth with NDPHC’s Eligible Customer Programme, which offers dedicated power supply and mutually agreed commercial terms,” Adighije said.

Adighije said the company remained committed to strengthening the infrastructure required to deliver electricity to homes, businesses and industries.

“At NDPHC, we remain committed to powering the nation’s progress by strengthening the infrastructure that delivers electricity to homes, businesses and industry”, Adighije said
NDPHC has an installed generation capacity of approximately 4,000MW from 10 power plants comprising 28 gas turbines and three steam turbines.

The company has intensified efforts to recover dormant capacity, rehabilitate underperforming plants and improve the operational availability of its generation fleet. A major development is the recent restoration of the 450MW Alaoji Open Cycle Power Plant in Abia State, which had been shut down in 2023 amid gas supply and metering disputes.

The return of the plant to service forms part of NDPHC’s efforts to recover stranded generation capacity and increase the contribution of its existing assets to electricity supply.

NDPHC Executive Director, Strategy & Commercial, Patrick Obahiagbon, stressed the importance of a customer-focused culture in delivering value and strengthening relationships with stakeholders, adding that the Eligible Customer Programme provides a more direct and commercially structured supply arrangement for qualifying consumers, allowing electricity supply solutions to be aligned with their operational requirements.

According to NDPHC, the arrangement can help eligible customers improve production planning, reduce dependence on less efficient alternative sources of electricity, minimise operational uncertainty and create greater room for business expansion.

It has also identified additional generation capacity that can be unlocked through rehabilitation and optimisation of existing plants, improved gas availability and the resolution of infrastructure constraints affecting power generation and evacuation.
