Transcorp Power Plc has expressed its readiness to partner with the Delta State Government to strengthen electricity infrastructure, improve power supply and support the state’s industrial and economic development.
The commitment was made by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Transcorp Power Plc, Peter Ikenga, during a panel session at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026 in Asaba.
The three-day summit, themed “Energy Ecosystem in Delta State,” brought together government officials, investors and business leaders to discuss strategies for accelerating industrialisation and attracting investment to the state. Vice President Kashim Shettima and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori were among the dignitaries who attended the event.
Speaking during the session, Ikenga said Transcorp Power, a subsidiary of Transnational Corporation Plc (Transcorp Group), has operated in Delta State for more than a decade through its power plant in Ughelli.
“We own a nearly 1,000-megawatt power plant in Ughelli, capable of supplying electricity to about two million homes, businesses, schools and hospitals. We remain committed to supporting Delta State’s development through reliable power generation,” he said.
Ikenga noted that Delta possesses significant advantages for electricity generation, including abundant natural gas reserves and an installed grid generation capacity of almost 3,000 megawatts.
He, however, said unlocking that potential would require sustained investment in gas supply, as well as improvements to electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure across the state.
According to him, Transcorp Power is prepared to support the development of an integrated electricity value chain covering gas supply, power generation, transmission and distribution.
“Transcorp can bring its experience to help develop an integrated power strategy for Delta State. We are ready to collaborate with the state government to address infrastructure gaps and support its economic transformation objectives,” he said.
Ikenga added that with the right investments and collaboration, Delta State has the potential to emerge as one of Nigeria’s leading economic hubs.
The Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026 was organised to promote investment opportunities and strengthen partnerships capable of driving sustainable economic growth, industrialisation and infrastructure development across the state.
Transcorp Power is one of Nigeria’s leading electricity generation companies, with operations centred on the Ughelli Power Plant in Delta State, one of the country’s largest thermal power facilities.
