Again, FG arraigns three fake patent medicine dealers in Kaduna


The Federal Government of Nigeria has dragged three male suspects; Afam Ofor, 26 years, Peter Gabriel, 30 years and Edwin Nwobodo, 25 years, before a Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna for selling and delivering patent or proprietary medicines to unsuspecting general public without approval.

The suspects were brought before Hon. Justice Sale Musa on Thursday with four count charges..

The charges stated that the accused persons not being a selling dispenser, a chemist or a holder of a patent and proprietary medicine vendors lincense did sell or deliver patent or proprietary medicines contrary to section 34(1)(a) and (b) and punishable under section 34(2) of the poisons and pharmacy ACT, CAP 535, LFN 1990.


“Your shops were sealed after found selling or delivering medicines without patent medicine vendor lincense and you were ordered to comply by obtaining lincense but, you disobeyed the order and broke the seal and resumed sale of medicines unlawfully thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 203 of the criminal code ACT L.F.N 2004”, the charges stated.

Other charges is that Afam Ofor and the two others willfully and unlawfully damaged property of Federal Government of Nigeria worth N30, 000 for the seal and for damaging padlock worth N2500 placed on their shops to close it for operating the shop without license in breach of the law.

Although, the accused persons who were currently on administrative bail pleaded not guilty to any of the count charges after the charges were read to them by the court clark on the instruction of the presiding Judge.

After several minutes of arguments from the counsel to the Federal Government, Barr. Shafiu Abubakar Mashanu on either there is the need for bail application as requested by the counsel to the defendants, Barr. Muhammed Abdullahi, the Court adjourned the hearing for bail Application till 5th of December, 2017 on the agreement of the both Counsels.
