Don canvasses active involvement of women in academics
Obayan said women must not limit themselves to ordinary things in the society but take the initiative to do the extra to fulfill their God-given potential.
The erudite scholar spoke at the first international women multidisciplinary conference held at Covenant University, Ota, Lagos.
At the conference themed, “Advancing women in academia and industry: Strategies, policies and emerging issues in the 21st century,”, the former vice chancellor said it would require both the contributions of the male and female genders to achieve the vision of the university in becoming one of the first 10 institutions by the year 2022.
Obayan noted that most times, it is the female students who usually have the highest number of first class in universities and wonder why it is only few of them that get to the top of their careers.
The don however enjoined their male counterparts not rest on their oars and continue to contribute their quota for the overall development of the country.
“The future we envision through conferences like this is building capacity, letting women see persons who have gone ahead, and putting thoughts together to say what new areas can we breakthrough on.
I do believe that men and women have a lot to offer and a university setting is a place where you have every opportunity to think, query, question and break out of your comfort zone.
Within these walls, you are able to learn new skills, take on new knowledge and try out some new experiments, take up some platforms, speak, think, engage and form relationships, network and then go out and make your mark.
“In this conference, we have had all the way from Silicon Valley, an entrepreneur who is a civil engineer who found her way into raising other people and that is what we are looking out for.
