The newly inaugurated Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, has announced the appointment of Prof. Samuel Olowo as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
Prof. Olowo, who was the Provost of the College of Medicine, was appointed following the disengagement of the erstwhile acting vice-chancellor, Prof. Sonnie Adagbonyin, by the authorities on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.
Confirming his removal in a letter to members of the Senate of the university on Friday, August 29, 2024, the former acting vice-chancellor stated that he would be stepping aside next week and handing over the reins of power to Prof. Olowo, the new acting vice-chancellor.
Prof. Adagbonyin, who was appointed as the acting vice-chancellor on February 8, 2022, following the sudden removal of Prof. Benson Osadolor, wrote that his removal by the university’s Governing Council was part of a transition plan towards the appointment of a substantive vice-chancellor.
A reliable source and member of the ASUU AAU Chapter, who craved anonymity, told The Guardian in a telephone interview that Prof. Adagbonyin was leaving his position to pave the way for the repositioning of the institution.
