To solve the nutritional and dietary challenges of most Nigerians and minimize malnutrition with Vitamins B6 and C, manganese, magnesium and phosphorus present in the product, a firm has introduced an improved food product.

The Managing Director of Lamb Weston/Meijer (LWM) Nigeria Limited, Victor Nwachukwu, has said Poundo Potato presents Nigerians desirous of light swallow meal with a healthier, tastier and convenient option.

The product is processed by Lamb Weston/Meijer, a leading player in the food value chains.

He said the product is made from 100 per cent Irish potatoes and consists of flakes of the popular root vegetable, which is made into a light swallow meal by pouring the flakes into boiling water.

He described the product as an excellent source of dietary fibre, potassium, Vitamins B6 and C, manganese, magnesium and phosphorus; among other essential health benefits and this is fundamentally what drives the idea behind it.

Made by Lamb Weston/Meijer as a light swallow meal, he said its versatility has been tested by Nigerian consumers, who have used it to make many other popular meals such as mashed potatoes, hot cereal (with hot water, milk, and sugar) or in pies (with meat and/or vegetable).

According to him, “we are pleased with the initial reception of the ‘orange pack of Irish Potato goodness’ and the increasing awareness among discerning Nigerian consumers” about the value that the brand has brought to the everyday health and convenience needs.

“Potato is a superfood; and we are particularly happy that Lamb Weston Poundo Potato, since its introduction to the Nigerian market, has continued to offer our valued customers and consumers more options of enjoying potato meals in addition to the boiled or fried versions we have been accustomed to for many years.”
