FMARD sets to train 200 on fabrication of agro tools

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture has concluded plans for the training of over 200 Nigerians for the fabrication of relevant local agricultural tools and machines, to boost food production.

Already, the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM), Ilorin, has been put on notice to dutifully implement the policies targeted at the nation’s teeming youths.
 
According to the Acting Executive Director of NCAM, Dr. Yomi Kasali, during the opening ceremony of the Skill Acquisition and Empowerment Training for 60 youths in welding and fabrication of agro-processing equipment, in Ilorin, the development would reduce drudgery and improve productivity among the farmers.
 
The 60 participants, all male, cut across the six geo-political zones and are expected to be under intensive training for a month. Besides, they would be given starter packs to enable them commence immediately and put their knowledge to good use.
   
NCAM, the only government owned mechanisation agency in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa, has invented and fabricated low cost machines like cassava grater, hydraulic press, cassava shifter, mechanical fryer, rice parboiler, distoner, polisher, sheller, wheel mini tractor, among others.
