FreeLance Free reminds youths to dream higher in new single, ‘Catch Up’
It’s always a season for motivational songs, in the ever bustling streets of Nigeria. In his newest song, dubbed ‘Catch Up, Afro-pop/Hip-hop musician Kufre Akpaidem, better known as FreeLance Free, has created a harmonious melody that nudges the feet to dance and also inspires the heart to dream.
The Akwa-Ibom native gained significant attention, in recent years, after breaking into the Nigerian music scene, armed with his catchy vocals and restless creativity. FreeLance, as he is widely known, collaborated with several notable acts including MC Galaxy, Iceberg Slim, Jay Cube, among others, steadying his feet to become familiar with the playgrounds of the industry.
The MBA holder believes that his music should have a positive impact on individuals, citing that as the core reason behind his latest introspective single.
“Catch Up is a mantra, the Hustlers Anthem… whatever the dream or goal in life you have to go get it. Time waits for no one so you have to Catch Up. The song also addresses the need for humility in the midst of success; as no matter your level of achievement, there is always someone higher or something missing.”
FreeLance also reveals that the song is an ode to the late Afro-pop icon, Dokta Frabz, who recently passed away. The Late Frabz worked closely with FreeLance during his career and was the producer of his hit single, “Eyen Ima”, which featured MC Galaxy and Iceberg Slim.
For someone who goes by the moniker ‘FreeLance’, Kufre actually has a full-time desire in the music arts. Drawing his early influences from the church, at his pre-teen ages, Freelance grew closer to music until he joined a gospel boy-band, called New Generation Gospel, in the United States – a move that signaled the beginning of an active career for him. His time with another group, Mental Ikonz, also equally helped shapen his craft, with a stretch of experiences performing across the US, especially at the prestigious AKISAN conventions. FreeLance Free is a child of consistency, undoubtedly.
Produced by sound-whiz, London, the exciting single, ‘Catch Up’, is testament of FreeLance’s consistency in honing his craft, right from his early days in a gospel band, to sharing recording booths with superstar artistes.
As his life tilts more towards impactful living, FreeLance also created a charity organization dubbed Freelance Foundation where he continues to preach the same positivity that his music is warped in, using his time, network and resources.
‘Catch Up’ is available across all digital streaming platforms. Shot by PJZ film and edited by Starpower studios, the video for the song is already gaining significant views across digital streaming platforms, as well.
