The Federal Government has expressed readiness to release the rice mill and irrigation facilities at Shangisha, Eegua, in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State to the state government, to boost rice production in the state.

Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina, disclosed this after inspecting facilities of the pilot phase of the agricultural revolution of the Federal Government’s intervention programme in the local government area.

Odedina explained that the facilities strategically situated near the border were to assist rice farmers in the area and to create jobs for the youth.

He noted that irrespective of the availability of rain, rice farmers could plant multiple times in a year, thereby increasing yield and income.

The Commissioner charged the people, particularly the youth to support the government in revolutionising agriculture with the use of modern technologies and also to contribute their quota to make the projects a success.

Representative of the Youth Cluster Farmers in the area, Mr. Yakub Olowookere, appreciated both the Federal and State governments for locating the pilot projects in the area, adding that through the development, the government has further demonstrated its commitment to creating employment opportunities for the youth, while developing the agricultural sector.

Olowookere urged youths in the area to seize the numerous employment opportunities provided by the projects, along the value chain and engage in rice production.
