Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Kadri Hamzat, has called on parents to be deliberate in training their children to be responsible citizens so that government would not be spending money meant for building infrastructure on managing their vices.

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Kadri Hamzat, has called on parents to be deliberate in training their children to be responsible citizens so that government would not be spending money meant for building infrastructure on managing their vices.

Speaking on Friday at the 3rd year anniversary special jumat service of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration, Hamzat implored parents to be up and doing in raising their children.

He enjoined Muslim faithful to continue to pray for Lagos and Nigeria noting that Lagos has made tremendous progress though it could do better than what it is now. According to him, Lagos did not have a single public ambulance in 1999 and could not pay salary for six months. He said to pay salaries, the state government then had to borrow. “We have made progress. It is not enough, but we have made enormous progress,” he said.

Hamzat noted that the state is leveraging on the solid foundation laid by the Bola Tinubu administration.

According to him, Tinubu was accused of mortgaging the future of the state, but the loan was actually utilised for the development of the state, hence, the solid foundation that subsequent administrations are leveraging on.

“The GDP of Lagos is bigger than Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire, two countries put together. So, things have really moved up and that’s why you have this influx of people coming to Lagos,’’ Hamzat said.

“A good leader must have the capacity, vision and ability to take decisions that are right for the majority of the people. Asiwaju Tinubu has the trait, he is ready to take tough decisions, he has the intellect to interrogate ideas and the ability to pick brains of people who can do the jobs and deliver without being monitored.

‘’Our problems are not insurmountable, that humans cannot solve, therefore l believe Tinubu has the quality of a great leader,’’ he said.

At the event, there were special prayers for divine intervention, unity, love and peace to reign in the state and country ahead of the 2023 general elections.

An Islamic scholar, Sheikh Saudi Ahmad said that the upcoming general election is an opportunity for the Nigerians to choose the right president.

Ahmad said that the citizens had to be united to make the right decision of electing the right leaders.

The Commissioner for Homes Affairs, Prince Anofiu Elegushi, implored the First Lady, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu to thank the state governor on behalf of the Muslim community for the excellent support he has been providing, citing the example of the Hajj 2022 where the preparation and airlift have been smooth and excellent because of the governor’s commitment.
