Local councils earn N362billion as federal allocation in seven months

• Alimosho Tops Nationally, LASG Accounts For 10 Highest Collecting Councils

In the first seven months of 2026 – January to July, the 20 recognised local councils in Lagos got N362 billion as federal allocation. Alimosho tops the table in terms of the highest federal allocation collected with N23.936 billion. It was followed by Ajeromi Ifelodun which got N19.705 billion. The council with the lowest allocation within the seven months is Ibeju Lekki Local council which got N15.762 billion.This meant that Alimosho allocation for the months under review was about N8.17 billion higher than that of Ibeju Lekki. It also implied that Alimosho share was about 34.2 per cent higher to Ibeju Lekki.

Agege Local Council received N18.141 billion within the same period. Amuwo Odofin got N17.130 billion; Apapa N16.427 billion; Badagry N16.755 billion; Epe N16.384 billion; Eti-Osa N17.153 billion; Ifako-Ijaye N17.927 billion; Ikeja N17.181 billion; Ikorodu N18.819 billion; Kosofe N19.489 billion; Lagos Island N16.352 billion; Lagos Mainland N17.103 billion; Mushin N19.287 billion; Ojo N 19.073 billion; Oshodi-Isolo N19.219 billion; Shomolu N17.726 billion; Surulere N18.441 billion.

The five highest recipients, Alimosho, Ajeromi Ifelodun, Kosofe, Mushin and Oshodi-Isolo, cumulatively received about N101.64 billion, which is approximately 28.1 per cent of the total. Alimosho by itself accounted for around 6.6 per cent of the combined allocation.

A breakdown of the allocation of a monthly basis revealed that Agege in January got N 2.457 billion, February N3.854 billion, March N2.061 billion, April N1.943 billion, May N2.707 billion, June N2.573 billion, July N2.548 billion.

Ajeromi Ifelodun received N2.706 billion in January, which rose to N4.058 billion in February, N2.248 billion in March, N2.148 billion in April, N2.928 billion in May, N2.794 billion in June and N2.819 billion in July.

On his part, Alimosho in January got N3.376 billion, February N4.609 billion, March N2.757 billion, April N2.709 billion, May N3.527 billion, June N3.396 billion and July N3.559 billion.

Amuwo Odofin received N2.297 billion in January, N3.722 billion in February, N1.939 billion in March, N1.808 billion in April, N2.563 billion in May, N2.428 billion in June and N2.370 billion in July.

Apapa in January got N2.185 billion, February received N3.630 billion, March N1.854 billion, April N1.716 billion, May N2.464 billion, June N2.328 billion, and July N2.248 billion.

Badagry Local Council was allocated N2.229 billion in January, N3.668 in February, N1.895 billion in March, N1.763 billion in April, N2.511 billion in May, N2.377 billion in June and N2.309 July.

For Epe Local Council, January allocation was N2.167 billion, February N3.618 billion, March N1.851 billion, April N1.716 billion, May N2.459 billion, June N2.325 billion and July N2.246 billion.

Eti-Osa received N2.288 billion in January, N3.717 billion in February, N1.943 billion in March, N1.818 billion in April, N2.568 billion in May, N2.434 billion in June and N2.381 billion in July.

For Ibeju Lekki, January allocation was N2.077 billion, February N3.542 billion, March N1.775 billion, April N1.629 billion, May N2.370 billion, June N2.234 billion and July N2.133 billion.

Ifako Ijaye Local Council in January got N2.422 billion, February N3.825 billion, March N2.035 billion, April N1.914 billion, May N2.676 billion, June N2.542 billion, and July N2.510 billion.

Ikeja Local Council received N2.301 billion as allocation in January, N3.726 billion in February, N1.945 billion in March, N1.817 billion in April, N2.571 billion in May, N2.436 billion in June and N2.382 billion in July.

Ikorodu Local Council in January got N2.557 billion as allocation, February N3.937 billion, March N2.143 billion, April N2.036 billion, May N2.803 billion, June N2.670 billion, and in July it received N2.669 billion.

Kosofe Local Council was allocated N2.676 billion in January, N4.033 billion in February, N2.222 billion in March, N2.118 billion in April, N2.897 billion in May, N2.762 billion in June and N2.779 billion in July.

For Lagos Island, in January it received N2.174 billion, February N3.621 billion, March N1.845 billion, April N1.705 billion, May N2.453 billion, June N2.317 billion, and July N2.234 billion.

Lagos Mainland got N2.294 billion in January, N3.719 billion in February, N1.935 billion in March, N1.804 billion in April, N2.559 billion in May, N2.424 billion in June, and N2.365 billion in July.

Mushin Local Council in January got N2.643 billion, February N4.005 billion, March N2.197 billion, April N2.092 billion, May N2.868 billion, June N2.734 billion and July N2.745 billion.

For Ojo Local Council, in January it received N2.607 billion as federal allocation, February N3.976 billion, March N2.172 billion, April N2.064 billion, May N2.838 billion, June N2.704 billion, and July N2.708 billion.

Oshodi Isolo Local Council got N2.631 billion in January, N3.996 billion in February, N2.189 billion in March, N2.083 April, N2.859 billion in May, N2.724 billion in June and N2.733 billion in July.

On its part, Shomolu Local Council in January received N2.391 billion, February N3.8 billion, March N2.01 billion, April N1.887 billion, May N2.648 billion, June N2.513 billion and July N2.474 billion.

Surulere Local Council federal allocation in January was N2.505 billion, February N3.893 billion, March N2.096 billion, April N1.982 billion, May N2.749 billion, June N2.614 billion, and July N2.599 billion

An analysis of the allocation on a monthly basis showed that February recorded the highest combined allocation at about N76.96 billion. This was far above January’s N48.99 billion. February alone accounted for 21.3 per cent of all allocations received during the seven-month period.

However, April was the low point as the combined allocation fell to about N38.76 billion. Compared with February’s N76.96 billion, April’s allocation was almost 50 per cent lower. April accounted for about 10.7 per cent of the seven-month total. The combined allocation rose to N54.03 billion in May, an increase of about 39.4 per cent from April, although it dropped slightly in June and July to N51.34bn and N50.82bn respectively.

In the first six months of 2026, Lagos local councils got N311.20 billion, which is the highest total allocation when compared with other states. It is followed by Kano which received N148.41 billion, Rivers N139.42 billion, Oyo N132.96 billion, and Katsina N116.66 billion.

Similarly, the ten local councils with the highest federal allocation across the federation in the first six months of 2026 were all from Lagos.

Alimosho got the highest allocation at N20.38 billion, Ajeromi/Ifelodun N16.89 billion, Kosofe N16.71billion, Mushin N16.54billion, Oshodi/Isolo N16.49 billion, Ojo N16.36 billion, Ikorodu N16.15 billion, Surulere N15.84 billion, Agege N15.60 billion and Ifako/Ijaye N15.42 billion.
