The Aesthetic Clinic (TAC) has conducted what it described as the largest skincare consultation exercise ever attempted in a single day, offering free sessions to more than 1,000 people across its branches in Lagos, Abuja, Montreal, Ghana, and the United Kingdom, as well as virtually to participants from every continent.
The initiative, tagged “Global Consultathon,” was organised to mark the National Skin Care Awareness Month in September and aimed at educating the public on the importance of proper skin health and care.
Clinical Director of TAC Ikeja, Dr Fola David, said the event gave participants the opportunity to sit with TAC doctors and aestheticians to discuss personal skin concerns ranging from acne and hyperpigmentation to premature aging.
“This is something that has never been done before. We are seeing a record 1,000 people in one day, free of charge, both physically and virtually. The skin is the largest organ in the body, and we want people to understand what they are putting on it and why proper care is critical,” he said.
David noted that the overwhelming response with over 1,500 registrations within a week of the announcement reflected a growing global consciousness about skin health.
He added that the exercise was designed to bridge the access gap many Nigerians face in terms of proximity to experts and affordability of professional skincare services.
He disclosed that the consultathon would now become an annual event, with plans to expand participation in future editions. “This is our way of giving back. Next year, we are planning for even more,” he added.
The Branch Manager of TAC Ikeja, Mrs Oluwatosin Meshioye, said the consultathon was not just about numbers but about empowering people to feel confident in their natural skin.
“The world is moving away from hiding behind makeup. More people want to be confident in their natural look. We see a lot of hyperpigmentation and acne cases, but beyond treatment, the real joy is seeing the smile on someone’s face when they feel heard and guided,” she said.
Meshioye emphasised that consultation is a vital first step in addressing skin concerns, likening it to a medical check-up. “A client may think they need one treatment, but on closer analysis, the root cause may be hormonal or dietary. That’s why consultation is so important,” she explained.
She also cautioned against the growing trend of skin bleaching, urging people to prioritise health over complexion. “You don’t need to bleach your skin to feel beautiful. Healthy skin is beautiful skin. People should seek guidance from qualified experts rather than quacks,” she advised.
